Having worked for over 20 years in administrative positions in a variety of industries, my background is more diverse than many virtual assistants. While in high school I started my working career in the accounts receivable department of the local hospital. Over the years I got into the IT field as a programmer and then as a team leader and systems manager for large corporations. After leaving the IT field I worked as administrative support for an office furniture dealership, construction companies, and a family law practice.
Over that time I continued to learn new processes and technologies to suit the particular industry I was working in at the time. As a result, I am familiar with AutoCAD and office layouts, PhotoShop, drafting initial legal documents, and I taught myself how to create a web page using HTML.
Having worked in small businesses coordinating with vendors and sub-contractors, I often needed to follow up with the contractors, many times small businesses as well. I could see these business owners were talented, busy people whose strengths made them successful. Unfortunately, they may not have been able to afford or even need a part-time person to perform such duties as sending out invoices or following up on payments. I saw a need for someone to “lend a hand” to take care of the day to day tasks and allow the business owners to spend their time on revenue generating work.
Wouldn’t it be nice if that business owner could have someone making sure the invoices got sent out in a timely manner resulting in a positive impact on their cash flow? Maybe all they needed was someone for a few hours a week. At the time technology wasn’t readily available to allow one person to handle administrative tasks for several businesses virtually. Traveling from business to business for an hour of work here and there really wouldn’t be economically feasible.
Today technology allows me to provide my services to a variety of clients – president of a manufacturing company, attorneys, account executives, and small business owners. All of my clients have one thing in common – they all needed a helping hand.
Don’t You Deserve A Hand?
